How do I go about being friends with her?

There's this girl that I used to be really great friends with like 4 years ago. But we stopped when she invited me to her party and me and another girl ended up going home crying. Anyway, she's like really a lot more popular than me. But I asked on her formspring (anonymously of course) if she would ever be friends with someone less popular than her and she replied "Sure, but I don't keep up with who's popular and who's not and if people do, they have problems." She seems really nice but she hasn't really ever talked to me. She's also my friend on facebook.. but yeah I'm too scared to talk to her or start a conversation. But the only drawback is I heard her and her friends talking about how they hate when people they don't like just start talking to them on facebook or something.
