Why doesn't the media cover the problems caused by the bad economy?

It is in my opinion an avoidence of reality due to the fact that the lame stream media wants to portray the government as a helpful big brother with our best interests at heart, in other words they are in the tank for socialism. To report the facts about the economic picture would not only lose them favor with a government in which they have bedded and accepted funding from,but also would not sell advertising which is the other way the news media is funded.
